Maths - concrete - pictorial - abstract

Maths is a very abstract subject but to help our students learn we need to make it less abstract. We can do this using a mix of concrete materials, pictorial representations and the abstract maths.

In this short video I explain the 3 different ways of representing numbers. Students will most likely need to start with the concrete materials, however, it is not a linear process moving from concrete to pictorial to abstract, they will need to move between all 3 to get a deep understanding of concepts.
